Why Copywriting Is SO Important

Even if your website has an outstanding WordPress design, all the bells and whistles and can magically clean your house from top-to-bottom it means nothing without quality content.

If you are still debating whether you should hire professional copywriting services (ahem, hellooo!), here are 5 really solid reasons why good copywriting is critical for the growth of your business:

1. Because without copywriting, there would be a lot more boring, bland, and uninspiring advertising out there. And who wants to see that?

Can you imagine a world without fun sales emails that make you laugh?

Without memorable copywriting and branding that becomes viral within the school yard (looking at you, Tango advert of the 90s).

LOL, Tony…

Even now in this modern age, how often do you search for something and end up reading a brilliant article that tells you everything you need to know. I can bet your Google search history is full of queries like “What to Watch?”, “What’s my IP?” or “How to delete my search history from my work computer”. Some gallant copywriter out there has created a blog or article specifically to help conceal your shame.

2. Good copywriting is important because it can help sell things that might otherwise be tough to shift.

Take, for example, a new type of broom that comes with a built-in dustpan. Not the most exciting product in the world, but with the right copy, it can be turned into something that people will want to buy.

…I mean, I get quite excited over a dustpan myself and I bet Mrs Hinch does too, but the average person probably wouldn’t care. A good copywriter can make it fun, sexy and inspire you to clean your WHOLE house… ok, SEO copywriters are good but aren’t total miracle workers.

3. Decent copywriting can also be used to build brand awareness and create an emotional connection with potential customers.

After all, if people don’t know about your product or service, they can’t buy it. And if they don’t have any emotional connection to your brand, they’re less likely to remember it when they do need what you’re selling.

In this Instagram age… I mean errr, TikTok… I’m young and hip, honest! Our attention span is weak and distracted by the algorithm. By hiring a copywriter that knows their stuff, you can make sure that you are harnessing and working WITH the algorithm and not against it.

We love you our Google overlords. ❤️

4. Copywriting is also a great way to stand out from the competition.

“Bitch, PLEASE! You did NOT just try and sell sheep at MY market…"

In a world where everyone is trying to sell the same thing, the company with the best copy will usually come out on top. You may sell the same thing as a million others, but a unique angle can make all the difference.

Fun story, I used to sell band merchandise at the O2 in London when it first opened. During Prince’s (or they-who-was-known-as-squiggly-raspberry-beret individual) run of shows, there was a very pretty tambourine that cost an insane £65. I sold HUNDREDS of them by showing how it could also double up as a hat, a bowl for chips and dip and a crow scarer.

That outside-the-box thinking will set you apart from the crowd. It also landed me the plush job at the merch stand in the VIP boxes, aaahhhh thank you very much!

5. Copywriting is important because it’s how you get people to read your articles on listicles about copywriting.

And if people don’t read those, then this whole thing was a waste of time. Bugger.
